Generative AI for Authors

JCODA recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools may assist authors during manuscript preparation. However, the use of AI must not compromise research integrity, originality, transparency, authorship, confidentiality, or accountability.

Permitted Uses

Authors may use Generative AI tools for limited assistance, including:

  • Grammar and spelling improvement.
  • Language translation.
  • Improving readability and clarity.
  • Assistance with brainstorming or structuring ideas.
  • Assistance with non-substantive formatting.
Authors Must Not:
  • Use AI to fabricate data, results, references, or research evidence.
  • Present AI-generated content as original human research without appropriate disclosure.
  • Use AI to create fictitious citations.
  • Use AI to manipulate research images or results deceptively.
  • Allow AI to independently determine scientific conclusions.
  • Use AI to conceal plagiarism or duplicate publication.
Human Accountability

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of the manuscript. Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot accept responsibility for the work.

AI Disclosure

Where Generative AI has been used in a substantive manner during manuscript preparation, authors should disclose the tool, purpose, and extent of use in an appropriate statement.

Use of AI solely for basic spelling, grammar, or language polishing may be treated differently depending on the extent of assistance; however, authors should disclose substantive AI assistance whenever required by the journal.
